Come hang with us and discover how to breathe new life into your favorite pieces using natural dyes like madder root, weld, and indigo—some of which were grown right in the garden at Guttenberg Arts. The dye garden was made possible with seeds provided by Rebecca Baker, natural dyer and designer who will also guide our workshop We will guide you through the process of using these beautiful, plant-based dyes to transform your items. And for those new to sewing, don’t worry—this session is perfect and only for beginners! Our sewing machines will be up and running, so feel free to bring any simple sewing projects or alterations you’d like to work on after dyeing.

This is a BYO (Bring Your Own) event, so bring a shirt, tote bag, or any small item (no larger than a shirt) made from cotton or natural fibers.

Talita do Nascimento Cabral is a brazilian interdisciplinary artist, designer and educator based in Jersey City since 2016. She explores the intersection of nature, memory, and materiality through the use of natural dyes, pigments, textiles, organic and found materials. In addition to her artistic practice, Talita is the founder of Upcycle Coalition. Through this project, she leads workshops on sewing, natural dyes and upcycling, encouraging participants to engage in sustainable practices and rethink their relationship with clothing and materials.

Rebecca Baker is a passionate grower of ancient plant medicine and natural dye plants. As lead grower at her botanical sanctuary, Moondance Gardens, located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast she strives to protect native medicinal plants, fungi, and their habitats while ensuring renewable populations for future generations. As a proud member of Acadiana Fibershed she envisions a world looking to rapidly mitigate the effects of climate change where consumers, manufacturers, designers, and ecologists collectively rethink and reimagine the lifecycle of garments.
