In Our Hands
A Portfolio of Prints on Environmentalism
Guttenberg Arts and Paper Crown Press are pleased to present In Our Hands, a portfolio of prints on environmentalism. Since the early 19th century, scientists have been studying the warming of our planet and how this will directly affect all life. The “In Our Hands” portfolio encourages artists to both visualize the beauty of our natural world while also provoking a drastic reconsideration of our industry and Western values.
Sixteen artists from across the United States were invited to create an edition of twenty prints referencing the fragility of our society. Using paper generously donated by Arnhem 1618, this portfolio incorporates a broad spectrum of print techniques including relief, silkscreen, mezzotint, lithography, etching and letterpress.
Sue Coe’s “Guilty” envisions businessmen on trial by the very creatures their actions have brutalized. Stark images of the world burning by Ruth Lingen, Matt Barteluce and Miguel Aragón remind us of the consequences from generations of negligence. Both Martin Mazorra and Rie Hasegawa use their imagery to broadcast the importance of our own actions and considerate thought while Kill Joy visualizes a more hopeful environment of using solar energy to empower communities. “In Our Hands’’ merges hope and hopelessness, change and disregard, in an effort to remind ourselves of the importance of our environment and the survival of our planet. A portion from each portfolio sale will be donated to an environmental non-profit organization.
