Learn how to develop a relief print from a sketch to a carving on a linoleum block. Participants will learn techniques for carving blocks, inking up and printing the block and how to sign and edition finished prints. Time will be spent troubleshooting any problems students may encounter in the course of developing their ideas to a finished print and learn to overcome artistic obstacles in a creative way. Students will come away from class with an edition of five, and will have enough skills to be able to continue printmaking at home. No prior printmaking experience is required, but students should come prepared with ideas for a 5” x 7” print such as a black and white drawing or photograph, keeping in mind the graphic nature of relief printing. Additionally participants should bring any referential material he/ she may need in order to fully realize his/her concept.
