Native plants are low maintenance, conserve resources, are adapted tothrive, provide wildlife habitat, and can beautify any outdoorenvironment. This class will focus on utilizing native plants in garden design with the goal of making your garden more functional and
attractive!

The class is geared towards students looking to start planting native plants for the first time and those that want to dig a little deeper into designing with native plants. The class will cover the benefits of native plants, propagating native plants, preparing your planting site, selecting appropriate plants, developing garden design plans, and planting for seasonal interest. The class will be held the first 3 Saturdays in May. On the final day of class we will utilize our new skills and plant a small native garden in the backyard of Guttenberg Arts based on plans that we will develop during the first two sessions.

Henry Pullin is a landscape designer and research technician. Henry is passionate about connecting people to nature and ecological
enhancement. His professional interests revolve around the design and implementation of green infrastructure, the reclamation of former
industrial sites and infrastructure, and the study of urban wetlands. Henry is currently working on the development of an adaptive reuse
park, the design and construction of floating habitat islands, and studying the effects of historic landscape modification on hydrology in the New Jersey Meadowlands.
